The Longford Connected Regeneration Unit Project

The “Longford Connected” Regeneration Unit project, applied for under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund last year is now a step closer, having received notification from the department on the 19th June of a full allocation of almost €3m over the next 2-4 years. The project will initially focus on strategic improvements in the Market Square and Grafton Court/Tesco Shopping centre areas and connections between them, followed by connectivity improvements in the wider town centre area. Together with the €1m committed by the Council and private enterprise, the project paves the way for the targeted rejuvenation of the town core, building on investment committed to the Royal Canal amenity and associated green/ blueways and the ongoing framework development in the Camlin Quarter. This is a major milestone in providing for the redevelopment of Longford Town centre in a sustainable, strategic and coherent way, realising strategic national outcomes and specific objectives contained within the Longford Town and Environs Local Area Plan and the County Development Plan
