Longford Municipal District approves RAPID Funding for upgrading of public lighting in Ardnacassa.

On 2nd November 2017, The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring T.D announced the opening of the RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) National Capital Grants Programme 2017.

The programme was administered by the Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) along with the Municipal Districts under the remit of Longford County Council. Longford received an allocation of €64,500 under the Programme which had to be distributed before the end of 2017.

Longford Community Resources Limited successfully applied for funding under the Programme for the upgrade of the public lighting in Ardnacassa estate. The improvement of public lighting in the area was identified by residents as a key measure to improve public amenity and security. The application was considered and recommended for approval by the Local Community Development Committee and the project ultimately was approved for funding by Longford Municipal District in accordance with the terms of the Programme.

It is envisaged that the upgrading to more energy efficient and better quality public lighting will greatly improve the public amenity and security in the Ardnacassa area. Works are due to commence shortly on the project.
