Longford County Council County Development Board Department

WELCOME TO COMMUNITY & ENTERPRISE DEPARTMENT

County Development Board.

What is the County Development Board ?

In County Longford there is a wide range of bodies apart from Longford County Council working on behalf of the community at local level such as state and local development agencies. Each operate in accordance with their own mandate and functions and are continually seeking to better serve the community in some way. It was recognised that so much more could be done if all such agencies and bodies operating in a county were given the opportunity to come together and agree a common approach to serving communities at local level.

County/City Development Boards were established in every county and city as a result of Government action to integrate local government and local development systems using the partnership approach.

What will the Board do ?

The County Development Board brings together local government, local development, state agencies active at local level and the social partners to agree and implement a Strategy for Economic, Social and Cultural Development in County Longford.

In practical terms, the CDB will

  • Draw up and work towards the implementation of a Strategy for the Economic, Social and cultural Development of County Longford by January 1st 2002
  • Promote and encourage co-operation and co-ordination between various agencies and interests operating in the county
  • Monitor and evaluate the delivery of the Strategy on an on-going basis

The CDB have also been charged with the task of overseeing the convening of a Social Inclusion Measures (SIM) working group for the county. This group is chaired by the Director of Community & Enterprise as acts as the local co-ordinator of National Development Plan Social Inclusion Measures.
