SUPER EASY ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CLEANING RECIPES

Bug Deterent

Ingredients:  Liquid Soap, Tabasco Sauce, Water.

How to make:

  1. Fill a spray bottle ¾ with water.
  2. Add 1-2 tsp of liquid soap.
  3. Add 2 tsp of Tabasco.
  4. Spray onto and underneath leaves, stems and base of plants. 

Works against any kind of insects, aphids etcs. Be careful not to get Tabasco into your eyes!!

Tub and Tile Cleaner

Ingredients:  Baking Soda, Liquid Soap, White Vinegar, Water.

How to make:

  1. Mix 1 2/3 cups baking soda with ½ cup of liquid soap in a bowl.
  2. Dilute with ½ cup of water.
  3. Add 2 tbsp vinegar LAST.  Stir until lumps are gone.

Add more water if it is too thick.  Keep lid on, as it tends to dry out.  Shake before use!!
Uses:  Tub, sink, toilet bowl, floors, bins, countertops, anywhere greasy and grimy!

Vanilla Power Air Freshner

Ingredients:  Vanilla Extract, Cotton ball, jar or ball.

Just soak the cotton ball with vanilla essence and place in the jar or bowl.  Great to get rid of smoke odours for example in the car. 
Leave for a few hours.  Best in confined spaces.

Floor Cleaner

Ingredients:  Scented Vinegar and Water.

How to make: 

  1. Fill bottle half with white distilled vinegar.
  2. Add a few drops of peppermint, eucalyptus or tea tree oil.
  3. Fill rest of bottle with purified water.

Uses:  Removing odours (pet stains, vomit, urine, mildew). Removing soap film in shower or bath. Removing hard water spots on glass, faucets and chrome. 

Furniture Polish

Ingredients:  Light Olive Oil, white vinegar, lemon oil or juice and water.

How to make:

  1. Put 2 tsp olive oil in a spray bottle
  2. Add 20 drops or more of lemon oil or 1 – 2 tsp of strained lemon juice.  Don’t use a synthetic oil.
  3. Add ¼ cup of white distilled vinegar.
  4. Fill rest of bottle with water.

Shake well before each use.  If you use fresh lemon juice, use up all the polish quickly.

Lemon Glass Cleaner

Ingredients:  Lemon juice and water.

How to make:
Get a spray bottle and tea strainer.
Just add 1 – 2 tsp of strained lemon juice to 16 oz/460 ml of water and spray.  Works well on dirty and greasy windows (kids hands and noses, dog slobber).  Use up immediately.  You can also use “Lazy Lemon”, but it is not as effective. 

All Purpose Kitchen Cleaner

Ingredients:  Baking Soda and Essential Oil

How to make:

  1. Fill shaker half full with baking soda.
  2. Add 15 – 20 drops of a pure essential oil (lemon or lime, grapefruit).  Stir with a  fork to break up lumps.
  3. Fill the rest with baking soda.  Stir again.

Uses:  everywhere, counters, chopping boards, pots, on greasy surfaces, sinks tubs.  Also as a deodorizer in fridges, lunch boxes, thermos bottles AND also as a FIRST AID FOR BUG BITES!

Leather and Furniture Polish

Ingredients:  Olive Oil, White Vinegar, Essential Oil (Vanilla, Cedar, Lemon…)

How to make:

  1. Fill bottle ¾ full of light olive oil.
  2. Add 15 – 20 drops of essential oil.
  3. Fill rest of bottle with white distilled vinegar.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE!!

Uses:  use of rag to shine wood, leather jackets, seats, boots, purses, couches.  Buff dry with a soft cloth.

Air Deodorizer/Odour Absorber

Ingredients:  White Vinegar, Essential Oil, Spray Bottle.

Add 20 – 30 drops of oil to a 8 ozs fine mist spray bottle of vinegar.

Uses:  in the kitchen, bathroom, anywhere there are smells.

Antiseptic Soap Spray

Ingredients:  Liquid Soap, water, tea tree oil.

How to make: 

  1. Fill a squirt/spray bottle full with water.
  2. Add 3 tsp of liquid soap.
  3. Add at least 20 – 30 drops of tea tree oil.
  4. Shake to mix.

Uses:  floors, toys, doorknobs, telephone receivers, bathtubs, toilet seats, washing hands etc.! It is essentially a disinfectant, but a safe one! 

Soda Glass Cleaner

Ingredients:  Plain Club Soda/Sparkling Water.

How to make:
Just fill spray bottle with plain club soda and get a lint-free cloth to dry.

Uses:  mirrors, windows, glass tables, eyeglasses, photocopy machines.  Other uses include stains on shirts, ties, dress, chrome fixtures.  Also cleans house-plants.

Stain and Spot Remover

Ingredients:  Liquid Dishwashing detergent, glycerin, water.

How to make: 

  1. Mix ¼ cup liquid detergent with ¼ cup of glycerin and ½ cup of water.
  2. Pour into squirt/spray bottle.

Uses:  to remove ballpoint ink, marker, newsprint, coffee, tea, juice, james, jellies, sauces.  Use also on carpets and upholstery.

Careful:  Do not use liquid soap! 

All-Purpose Household Spray

Ingredients:  Liquid Soap, white distilled vinegar, borax, purified water, essential oil.

How to make: 

  1. Mix 2 tbsp of vinegar with 1 tsp borax.
  2. Fill rest of bottle with very hot water.  Shake until the borax is dissolved.  
  3. Add ¼ cup of liquid soap of 1/8 cup of liquid detergent LAST.
  4. Add 10-15 drops of essential oil, i.e. lavender, lemon.

This is powerful, keep away from children and damaged skin. Uses:  toilets, showers, refrigerator, tiles.  Works well against mould and mildew if left soaking. 

Stain Remover

For Porcelain and stainless Steel

Ingredients:  a fresh lemon or lime and baking soda or salt.

How to make:  Locate a stain.  Wet it and pour on baking soda or salt.  Squeeze on lemon or lime juice, let sit for a few hours.  Finish by rubbing with a sponge.  Wash off stain.  Repeat if necessary.  Works against rust.  Can also be used on wooden chopping boards.
