WELCOME TO LONGFORD COUNTY COUNCIL WEBSITE

Longford County Council staff are currently progressing a lead survey to determine the extent of lead pipes in the distribution network of the water supply. This involves assessing buildings that were built pre 1970, discussions with caretakers etc., to identify areas of lead piping in the network. A map identifying where lead distribution mains, or lead service connections are suspected, is being compiled. An investigative monitoring programme, targeting areas of the distribution network that are at risk of having lead, is being established in conjunction with the HSE.

Recent monitoring and sampling in the St. Michael’s Road, Congress Terrace, Wards Terrace and O’Connell Terrace areas of Longford Town has shown elevated lead levels. Householders have been notified of HSE advice on this matter.
