Launch of Lanesboro Public Wifi

The main aim of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme is to support the revitalisation of towns and villages to improve the living and working environment of their communities and increase their potential to support increased economic activity into the future.

Lough Ree community resources applied for funding under this scheme in 2017 for public wi-fi with an outdoor interactive screen and were successful.  This project shows how progressive and forward-thinking Lanesboro is and shows how you, as a community, have embraced technology.

Consultation of the national broadband plan (NBP), intervention map reveals that Lanesboro town is surrounded by an 'amber area'.  This project is assisting in addressing the so called 'digital divide', creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise be able to have internet access at home.

It is also promoting and supporting tourism as free wi-fi services for an area is seen as a vital link for tourism.
