From 7am on Friday 31st May 2013, An Garda Síochána will conduct a national speed enforcement operation "Slow Down" supported by the RSA, HSA, NRA, NTA, local authorities and fleet operators, for a 24 hour period until 7am on Saturday June 1st. Based on collision data, Thursdays and Fridays in 2013 have the highest proportion of fatal collisions accounting for 38%.

Road pavement repair works will take place on the Main Street, Longford town on Wednesday May 15th. The works will commence at 7:00pm and continue until 7:00am on Thursday morning May 16th. The road will remain open but restrictions will be in place during working hours and delays are to be expected.

In accordance with the provisions of the Planning and Development Acts 2000 – 2011 Longford County Council has prepared a Draft Development Contribution Scheme for the period 2013 to 2017. The Scheme provides for the levying of development contributions in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefiting development in the area of the planning authority.

The Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 introduces a €200 annual charge on non principal private residences, payable by the owner(s) of the NPPR to the Local Authority in whose area the property concerned is located. The charge applies mainly to owners of private rental property and holiday homes. It also applies to vacant residential property unless newly built but unsold.

The Finance (Local Property Tax) Regulations 2013 prescribe the unfinished housing estates (which include the list for County Longford) to which an exemption from payment of the Local Property Tax shall apply, in accordance with Section 10 of the Finance (Local Property Tax) Act 2012
The pumps used to pump treated water from the treatment works to the main reservoir have a power rating of 160kW (this is equivalent to 80 x 2kW electric fires!). These pumps are normally working for 22 hours per day.
