The N63 Lanesborough Road at the junction of the N63 Lanesborough Road and R397 Athlone Road at Ballymacormick, Longford and the N63 at the junction of the N63 (Longford Road) and the R392 (Ballymahon Road) in Lanesborough Town shall be closed from Monday February 6th 2012 to Friday 30th March 2012.

The Household Charge is an annual charge introduced by the Local Government (Household Charge) Act 2011 which is payable by owners of residential property. It is a matter for owners of residential properties to register and pay the Household Charge on or after the 1st of January 2012.

The Emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds Regulations (referred to as the Solvents Regulations, S.I. No. 543 of 2002) were introduced in November 2002 to limit such VOC emissions and to combat these harmful effects. The Solvent Regulations require a large section of Irish businesses which use solvents or solvent containing material as part of their operations, to determine if the regulations apply to them, and if so, obtain a Certificate of Compliance by October 31st 2007.

Local Authorities have been asked by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), Ireland’s specialist agency for the surveillance of communicable diseases to assist in raising awareness of Lyme Disease amongst the general public. Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi which is spread by the bite of a tick.
Cllr. Peggy Nolan, Mayor of Longford officially launched this new Transition Year resource on Monday last in the Council Chamber. The purpose of this resource is to raise awareness about the place of local government in the democratic system and to educate young people about the roles and responsibilities of the local authority.

Longford County Council staff are currently progressing a lead survey to determine the extent of lead pipes in the distribution network of the water supply. This involves assessing buildings that were built pre 1970, discussions with caretakers etc., to identify areas of lead piping in the network.
The original Draft Development Contribution Scheme which was adopted by the Council in March 2004 for the period up to 31 December 2009 is now under review. The Development Contribution Scheme has had a very positive impact on the delivery of infrastructure in Longford since its introduction.
The Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 introduces a €200 annual charge on non principal private residences, payable by the owner(s) of the NPPR to the Local Authority in whose area the property concerned is located. The charge applies mainly to owners of private rental property and holiday homes. It also applies to vacant residential property unless newly built but unsold.
