Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

You can dispose of anything with a plug or battery free of charge at either of Longford’s two private Civic Amenity sites.

Bottles & Tins 

Glass Bottles & Cans

You can recycle all your bottles and cans FREE OF CHARGE at one of 26 Bring Bank locations throughout County Longford.

Note: Anyone who leaves waste, including bags or boxes at the Bottle Banks will be prosecuted.

Cardboards/Newspapers

You can recycle your cardboard, plastics and newspaper at a minimal charge of €0.20/kg at either of Longford’s two private Civic Amenity sites.

Batteries

You can bring back your old batteries to any shop that sells batteries and they will be recycled free of charge. Look out for the small blue box in the shop.

Alternatively, batteries (including car batteries) are accepted at either one of Longford’s two private Civic Amenity sites.

Clothes/Shoes/Accessories

Why not donate all your unwanted clothes that are in good condition to any one of your local charity shops?

Furniture

REVAMP will accept your old furniture free of charge provided it is in good condition and fit for resale. They will also restore your old furniture.

Large Goods Collections

Longford County Council holds a series of large goods collections every year throughout the County at various locations. We collect beds, mattresses, old furniture, bicycles, scrap metal, carpets, lino, children’s toys and timber. A nominal fee is charged.

Composting

Composting is a great way of getting rid of unwanted organic material in the home and also provides a great source of compost for the garden. You can compost vegetable peelings, egg shells and cardboard egg boxes, tea bags, fruit peelings, leaves, some grass, kitchen towel and newspaper.

Hazardous Waste

Items such as waste paint tins, fluorescent tubes, weedkiller, waste oil, etc., should not be disposed of along with your household waste. Special collections are organised by Longford County Council.

Waste Tyres

All tyre retailers are obliged to take back your old tyres when you are purchasing new ones.
