Community Smoke Alarm Project
Longford County Council is working towards the objective of having all homes protected by working smoke alarms. Since 2006, newly constructed homes are required to have a series of hardwired smoke and heat detectors installed. This programme is targeted at homes constructed prior to 2006, and where vulnerable persons may reside. With the assistance of Department funding, Longford County Council have worked with the HSE community services, local Gardaí and community groups to promote the smoke alarm scheme which has provided smoke detectors to approximately 320 homes over the last ten years.
Smoke alarms have been made available to:
- The elderly or mobility impaired
- The Travelling Community
- Persons living alone
