RRDF 2020 - Lanesborough

Enhancement of Attractiveness of Lanesborough as a Tourism Destination

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Gerard Farrell, welcomed the announcement  on 25 June 2020 by the Department of Rural and Community Development of funding of €468,750 towards the development phase of a series of projects aimed to enhance the attractiveness of Lanesborough as a tourism destination, under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

This project will bring to the next stage the development of an amphitheatre, visitor centre and link road within the town.  Councillor Farrell stated that “Lanesborough is going through a significant transition at the moment with the loss of jobs at ESB and Bord na Mona and recognising the natural assets of the area, I have worked closely with the local community and Local Authority to reposition Lanesborough as a tourism destination within Ireland Hidden Heartlands.  I am delighted that the Department recognise the potential of this area and I feel the delivery of this suite of projects will be transformational for Lanesborough and put this region on the tourism map within the Hidden Heartlands and beyond.”
