Waiver of Rates - COVID-19

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has released information in relation to the waiver of commercial rates due to COVID-19 restrictions for Quarter 3 of 2021.

A three-month waiver has been applied to eligible businesses and will take the form of a credit in lieu of rates.

Cash Office

As providers of essential services, the offices of Longford County Council will remain open.  However, in line with current public health guidance, Longford County Council is encouraging the public to contact the offices by email, phone or online.  Meetings and visits to the Council offices can be facilitated in exceptional circumstances only.    Such meetings should be prearranged and by appointment only and will be held in compliance with public health guidance.

The Cash Office will be open to the public during the following hours:-

Monday to Friday        10:00 am to 12:00 noon      2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

The Cash Office will continue to accept payment by debit or credit card over the phone during the following hours:-

Monday to Friday        10:00 am to 1:00 pm           2:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Cheques and Postal Orders may be posted to Cash Office, IGU, Longford County Council, Great Water Street, Longford

Customers can continue to pay Housing Rent by contacting their designated Rent Collectors who can accept Housing Rent Payments via Credit/Debit Card over the phone.

COVID-19 – Mortgage Payment Break for Local Authority Borrowers

It has been decided to offer local authority borrowers who are in need of financial support related to the COVID-19 situation, the option of a mortgage payment break of up to three months. An additional 2 breaks of 3 months each may also be sought.

Additional interest will NOT accrue to the borrowers account during the period of the payment break ensuring that no increased cost will arise.

The monthly repayment following the payment break will be increased to facilitate the repayment of the loan over the remaining term of the loan.

Any Local Authority borrower facing difficulties due to COVID-19 is urged to contact Longford County Council as soon as possible. 

This facility applies to all local authority home loan products.
