Longford Dog Pound

Longford Dog Pound

Longford Dog Pound looks after straying dogs taken in by the dog warden. Please be aware, Longford Dog Pound no longer accepts surrendered dogs into its care.

Stray dogs are kept for a minimum of 5 days to allow for re-claiming. If not reclaimed, Longford Dog Pound will work to try to rehome the dog, including via our Rehome a Dog page.

It is Council policy to try to re-home as many suitable dogs as possible. However, some dogs are not suitable for re-homing due to their temperament, disease or other reasons. In this case, some dogs will be moved to an animal rescue centre or otherwise need to be put to sleep.

Reclaiming Your Dog

The cost of re-claiming a dog is €50, with the dog licence needing to be shown. This fee increases by €50 for repeat offences.

The cost of re-claiming a restricted breed is €100. Again the dog licence must be shown and the fee increases by €100 for repeat offences.
