Employment Supports

Whether you are a refugee, a Beneficiary of Temporary Protection (BOTP) from Ukraine, or an International Protection Applicant (IRPP), there are many supports available in County Longford to help you work, study, or start a business.

Labour Market Access and the Right to Work

Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTP) - Ukrainian Citizens

If you came to Ireland under the Temporary Protection Directive, you automatically have the right to work once you hold your Temporary Protection Permission Letter.

This permission allows you to:

  • Work or be self-employed in Ireland
  • Register with Intreo to find employment or training, and
  • Apply for education and social supports

Temporary Protection has been extended until March 2027.
To keep your permission valid, you must renew it online through the Irish Immigration Service portal.

International Protection Applicants (IRPPs) - Asylum Seekers

If you are in the International Protection process, you do not have the right to work immediately. You must first apply for a Labour Market Access Permission (LMAP).

You can apply five months after your International Protection application date - this is shown as the "Application Received" date on your Temporary Residence Certificate (TRC)(blue card).

Once granted, the LMAP allows you to:

  • Work for any employer in Ireland
  • Apply for jobs through Intreo or JobsIreland.ie
  • Access training and employment support services

To apply, you will need to create an Irish Immigration Service Online account and upload your completed application form.
