Motor Tax
Motor tax must be paid when a private vehicle is used on a public road or in a public place, with some exempt vehicles. See also motor tax for commercial vehicles.
Motor tax discs are issued in periods of 3, 6, or 12 whole calendar months.
All tax discs start on the first day of a calendar month and end on the last day of a calendar month. You can renew your motor tax anytime during the month of expiry of your current motor tax disc.

Renewing your motor tax
You can renew your motor tax:
Taxing a New or Imported Vehicle for the First Time
The amount of tax depends on the type of car you have bought. For new cars, motor tax is calculated on the vehicle’s CO2 emissions.
Submit a completed RF100 First Motor Tax Application Form along with the appropriate fee to your local Motor Tax Office. This form should be obtained from the motor dealer, from the person you bought your vehicle, or from the National Car Testing Service (NCT) if the vehicle was imported.
