Legal Aid Board

The Legal Aid Board is an independent statutory body responsible for the provision of civil legal aid and advice. 

If you are applying for international protection in Ireland, civil legal aid and advice can help with your application. You can apply for legal services at any time, but it is important to do so as early as possible. 

Applications are made through one of the Legal Aid Board's Law Centres that deal with international protection applications. The nearest centre to County Longford is located in Athlone.

Immigrant Council of Ireland

The Immigration Council of Ireland provides expert information and legal advice on immigration, residency, citizenship, and family reunification. 
They also support victims of trafficking and gender-based violence.

Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI)

The Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI) works to advance the rights of migrant workers and their families who are at risk of exploitation, social exclusion, or discrimination.
MRCI provides information, advocacy, and empowerment supports to help workers campaign for fair treatment and employment rights.

Crosscare Migrant Project

The Crosscare Migrant Project provides information and advocacy support to people who have moved to Ireland and those returning to Ireland. They advice on immigration permissions, family visas, citizenship, and residency issues. 

They also provide:

  • A Chinese-language service
  • Advice for non-EU nationals and families
  • Research, policy development, and training for organisations working with migrants

NASC Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre

Nasc offers a free helpline for queries on immigration law in Ireland or reception conditions for International Protection Applicants.
You can call to get information about immigration status, family reunification, visas, citizenship, or reception conditions.

Doras

Doras supports international protection applicants, refugees, and migrants to access their rights and entitlements.
They provide casework, referrals, and advocacy, focusing on social inclusion and integration.

Irish Refugee Council - Independent Law Centre

The Irish Refugee Council Independent Law Centre provides early legal advice and representation to people in the asylum process.
You can access the service through their Information and Advocacy Service. If you need legal representation and have not already availed of legal aid, the service can refer you directly to the Law Centre.

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Ireland

JRS Ireland is a charity that supports individuals, families, and children living in IPAS accommodation centres across Ireland.
The JRS RAISE Project provides information, advice, and other services to young International Protection Applicants and promotes education and inclusion.

Voluntary Assisted Return - International Organisation for Migration (IOM)

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) operates a Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Scheme for those who wish to return voluntarily to their country of origin.
The IOM can assist with travel documentation, flight arrangements, and reintegration support upon return.
