Functions of Corporate Services.

  • Secretariat Service: The Meetings Administrator is appointed to provide a secretariat service for all statutory meetings of the County Council.
  • Annual Report: Under the Local Government Acts, 1991-2001, Local Authorities are required to publish an Annual Report on the performance of their functions in the previous year. The report which is published by Corporate Affairs Section is available online here and through the County Council Offices, at Libraries and, also, by way of publication in the local newspapers.
  • Civic Awards: Longford County Council is proud to host a reception and awards ceremony for persons in its administrative area who have distinguished themselves and brought pride and honour to their community through their achievements. The Council also, as the occasion arises, hosts a civic reception for visiting dignitaries to the area.
  • Customer Services: Longford County Council is committed to delivery of a customer orientated service which will respond to the needs, concerns and aspirations of the people of Longford whilst upholding the highest ethical standards and accountability and integrity of Local Government. In this regard, the Council has designated a staff member with responsibility for resolving customer complaints.
  • Health and Safety: Local Authorities have prepared safety statements in accordance with the requirements of the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act, 2005. Health and safety training is provided for all staff. The Health and Safety Officer works with the Safety Management Committee and Representatives to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Ombudsman: All requests for investigations by the Office of the Ombudsman are processed initially by the Corporate Affairs Section who provide liaison with the Ombudsman.
  • Coroner: The Council is responsible for coroner's fees associated with inquests and post-mortems.
