Granard Municipal District was delighted to host a civic recognition event in honour of the 2020 Leinster Junior Club Champions Ballymore Ladies GAA Club.

It follows their defeat of Kilmore, of Wexford in a COVID delayed Leinster Championship final which was played on Wednesday 23 June 2021 at O’Moore Park in Portlaoise.

The event was led by Granard Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Colin Dalton who paid tribute to the club players and management, recognising and celebrating their dedication in staying the course throughout COVID to eventually steal victory.

Ballymore Ladies Gaelic Football Association was founded in 1992 by Martin Reilly and Mary McNerney with the goal to develop Ladies Gaelic Football in the community for people of all ages and maximise participation.

Within three years of being formed, they were the Longford Senior A Champions and have won many accolades in the intervening years since.

Members of the club displayed significant determination, solidarity, and community spirit when they did a collective 400km cycle (the distance of the round trip down and back from Kilmore) to raise funds for the club’s Leinster Championship journey.
