Africa Day - Tuesday 25 May 2021

Longford's Africa Day 2021 takes place on Tuesday 25 May.

Although restrictions on physical gatherings will be in place due to public health measures, preventing the holding of in-person events to mark the occasion, the Longford Africans Network is holding a virtual event of celebration and reflection until it is possible to meet once again in person.

This is a wonderful opportunity to draw attention to the diversity of unique African heritage, customs, languages and traditions that add to the social, cultural and economic wealth of Longford and Ireland while making clear that this country remains a place of welcome for a multiplicity of cultures.

Looking forward to the event, Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi said "Longford is an inclusive community that values all its members and helps them reach their full potential, thus enabling them to live with dignity and actively engage in the socio-economic activity of the locality."

"Social inclusion can impact both physical and mental health of people living in the community and the COVID-19 pandemic saw members of the Longford Community work together to support each other through the difficult year gone by."

"To mark Africa Day 2021, Longford Africans Network is hosting a virtual event on Tuesday, 25th May where we will recognise and celebrate the achievements of some of our Africans in the community and recognise some of our allies. I look forward to seeing people at the virtual event and the link to the event will be available by emailing Africanslinklongford@gmail.com."
