Ambassador of Morocco visits Longford
Successful visit sees ahead of celebrations for Africa Day

Longford County Council was delighted to welcome His Excellency Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco Lahcen Mahraoui to Longford on Saturday, 21 May.
Ambassador Mahraoui fulfilled a number of engagements during his visit which was part of local celebrations ahead of Africa Day. The invitation came about as a result of Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Peggy Nolan reaching out to His Excellency.
Meetings and activities
Ambassador Mahraoui was welcomed to County Longford by Cathaoirleach Cllr Peggy Nolan. The first meeting took place in Edgeworthstown Community Library where the Ambassador was shown around this new state-of-the-art facility. Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon and County Librarian Paula Mulry were also in attendance.
Following this, the Ambassador visited Maria Edgeworth Centre, which included a tour led by Matt Farrell. The Ambassador learned of the history of Maria Edgeworth and of the centre. Afterwards, the Ambassador was shown around Longford County Council buildings, including the Council Chamber.
Developing relationships
One of the key themes that emerged from the discussions included the need to develop further relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the county of Longford. There was also discussions around the plans underway to celebrate Africa Day in Longford.
Speaking following the visit, Cathaoirleach Cllr Peggy Nolan said she was incredibly happy to welcome the Ambassador to Longford. “This visit allows for developing relations between Longford and the people of Morocco. I want to pay tribute to Ambassador Mahraoui for sharing his time with us. I hope to welcome His Excellency again to Longford in the future.”
Longford County Council extends its thanks to Maria Edgeworth Centre who went above and beyond to ensure the Ambassador was treated to a warm Longford welcome during his visit.
