A landmark day for home ownership in Longford

This week marks a milestone for County Longford as the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has approved €1.875 million for the construction of 25 new affordable homes at Ard Michael, Ballinalee Road, Longford Town. 

For the first time, Longford County Council will lead an affordable housing project, making home ownership a realistic option for more people in the community.

Chief Executive of Longford County Council Paddy Mahon, said, “This is a major step forward for people in County Longford who want to own their own home. The new homes at Ard Michael will be high-quality and energy efficient, giving an opportunity to those who want to put down roots and own a home in Longford. I want to acknowledge the work of our Housing team and the support of the Department in progressing this scheme.”

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Cllr Garry Murtagh, said, "This is a proud day for County Longford. The approval of these 25 affordable homes marks a new chapter for our county, giving more families the opportunity to build their future here. I want to commend Longford County Council and thank the Department for their support in making home ownership more accessible for our community. We look forward to seeing these homes delivered and welcoming new homeowners to Ard Michael."
