Ballymahon Town Twinning Group to host inaugural Bastille Day celebrations
Happening in Ballymahon on Sunday, 14 July
Press Release: Monday, 1 July 2024
The Ballymahon Twinning Group has just announced its first-ever Bastille Day celebration, set to take place on Sunday, 14 July. This historic event will see the French flag raised in Ballymahon, marking a vibrant day of French culture and festivities that promises to engage and delight the local community.
Bastille Day, known in France as the Fête nationale française, commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July, 1789, a pivotal event in the French Revolution, and the unity of the French people celebrated during the Fête de la Fédération on 14 July, 1790. Traditionally marked by grand celebrations across France, including the renowned military parade on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, Bastille Day is a symbol of freedom, unity, and national pride.
In Ballymahon, the festivities will kick off with a special brunch in Skelly's Yard from 12noon to 2pm. Attendees can enjoy a taste of French cuisine in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Following the brunch, the yard will transform into a hub of entertainment with games of French Boules for both adults and young people, and the French game of Palet specially arranged for children.
The Ballymahon Town Twinning Group invites everyone to join in the celebrations and immerse themselves in the spirit of French culture. From children’s games to cultural entertainment, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The group hopes to involve as many local residents as possible, fostering a sense of community and international friendship. Ballymahon Twinning Group proclaimed last week "We are thrilled to bring a piece of France to Ballymahon with our first Bastille Day celebration,” and they added, “This event is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Ballymahon to come together, celebrate, and enjoy a day filled with French culture and activities.”
Join us in Skelly's Yard on14 July for a day of French-inspired fun, food, and festivities. Let's make this Bastille Day a memorable occasion for Ballymahon!
