Cllr Colin Dalton co-opted onto Longford County Council at April monthly meeting
Cllr Dalton replaces Senator Paraic Brady who was elected to the Seanad in February

Cllr Colin Dalton was officially ratified and co-opted as the newest member of Longford County Council at the April monthly meeting of the local authority which took place this week.
Cllr Dalton replaces Senator Paraic Brady who was elected to the Seanad in February. The Ballinalee native is one of five county councillors for the Granard Municipal District.
The Fine Gael councillor was proposed for co-option by Cllr Paul Ross from the Ballymahon Municipal District who said, "Cllr Dalton has been working hard for his community over the past four years and will make an excellent councillor for the Granard area."
The proposal was seconded by Cllr Gerry Hagan from the Longford Municipal District who said, "Cllr Dalton has worked tirelessly over the past number of years, and I wish him the very best."
Acting Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh from the Granard Municipal District welcomed the newly co-opted Cllr Colin Dalton to the chamber.
This is Cllr Dalton's second time to be co-opted onto Longford County Council after he replaced Micheál Carrigy who was elected to the Seanad in May 2020.
Cllr Dalton said that he was delighted to return to Longford County Council, and he paid tribute to Cian Brady and Kathleen McGahern who had contested the Fine Gael selection convention for the vacated council seat.
Speaking at the April monthly meeting of Longford County Council Cllr Colin Dalton said, "I am delighted to be back in the Council Chamber, and I am looking forward to working with my fellow councillors and community groups. I've four years' experience and I will continue to work hard and represent the people of the Granard Municipal District."
Welcoming Cllr Colin Dalton to Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon said, "Local democracy is the cornerstone of community representation.
