County Longford U-17 2024 Leinster Minor Football Championship winner honoured

County Longford's U-17 GAA team, winners of the 2024 Leinster Minor Football Championships, have been honoured at a civic recognition hosted by Longford County Council on Friday, 7 February. 

Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey officiated at the event and made a presentation to the team, acknowledging their achievement and the pride they have brought to County Longford. Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon, County Longford GAA Chairperson Derek Fahy and Longford Minors Manager Enda McGahern also spoke at the event. 

Longford U-17 football team won the Leinster Minor Football Championships in May 2024, winning against Dublin in O'Connor Park in Tullamore, County Offaly. It is also the fifth time in the history of Longford GAA that the county has bene crowned Leinster Minor Champions, with the last such victory back in 2010. 

Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey spoke highly of the team. "This GAA team really showed what they were made of coming back against Dublin and going onto victory. Through their hard work and determination, they are a credit to themselves, their families and their county. We also recognise the management team and backroom staff who helped to make this triumphant win possible. On behalf of all of the elected member, we are extremely proud of you all and cannot wait to see what is in store for 2025."

Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon similarly commended the team on their victory. "This team, with players representing all corners of County Longford, are truly deserving winners of the Leinster Minor Championship. They have brought a lot of joy to the county and great hopes for even more success into the future."
