Free six-week women's health programme ‘MenoWell’ launches in Longford

Evidence based online programmes from EduFIT supporting wellness

Press Release: Thursday, 4 September 2025

Longford County Council, in partnership with Healthy Longford & Longford Sports Partnership, is offering women across the county free access to 'MenoWell Longford' – an evidence-based online programme supporting wellness through all stages of adult life.

The programme, created by Dr Diane Cooper (Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Health Researcher) through EduFIT, specifically addresses preparation for midlife changes, menopausal transition, and post-menopausal health.

The ‘MenoWell Longford’ programme will begin on Monday, 29 September at 1pm.

Weekly Schedule:

  • Two 40-minute live strength exercise classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8pm)
  • One 30-minute health masterclass (Mondays, 1pm)
  • All sessions recorded for later viewing
  • Access to private on-demand exercise library (lifetime access)

Health masterclasses cover 'Muscle Matters', 'Nutrition for a Healthy Menopause', 'Building Bones', 'Healthy Hearts', 'Sleeping Soundly' and 'S.E.L.F. Care', delivered by experts with Q&A sessions. Participants receive weekly resources including infographics and recipes from registered nutritionists.

Research conducted in 2023 with Laois Sports Partnership demonstrated significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, menopausal symptoms, wellbeing, and physical self-efficacy. Over 3,600 women across Ireland have completed the programme.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Cllr Garry Murtagh said, "This programme addresses a significant gap in women's health support. The fact that over 3,600 women across Ireland have already benefited speaks volumes. I urge all women in County Longford, regardless of their stage of life, to register for this free six-week programme and invest in their long-term health and wellbeing."

Dr Diane Cooper of EduFIT said, "We're thrilled to expand 'MenoWell' to County Longford. This programme provides credible, practical knowledge that empowers women to make positive changes promoting lifelong health before, during and after menopause. The feedback has been remarkable – women feel genuinely more positive about this natural transition."
