Granard students bloom at Relove Fashion competition

Press Release: Friday, 2 May 2025

Longford County Council has extended congratulations to Cnoc Mhuire Secondary Schools students in Granard who represented Longford in the recent finals of the Relove Fashion Competition.

Klaudia Wegrzyn, Lena Piwowarczyk, Anna Adler and Susan Igoe (Art Teacher) took part in the competition. The students were sponsored for this competition by the Environment section of Longford County Council.

This sustainable fashion competition is open to all secondary school students in Ireland and encourages students to explore creative reuse options, such as uncycling, repairs, and alterations, to promote sustainable fashion choices for a circular economy. The Granard students created an amazing outfit inspired by the flowers which bloom in the Arctic. Materials were sourced from a local charity shop, and the group also used unwanted items from home. The group created the outfit by using a paper pattern to cut out the pieces of the dress, basting in place with a running stitch and then sewing with a machine. The crocheted flowers have been made with scrap wool left over from an art class and have been attached onto the outfit to create a unique look.
