LCC publishes Expression of Interest for Civic Centre

Statement from Longford County Council

14 April 2021

Longford County Council is pleased to publish an invitation for expressions of interest as the initial stage of the delivery of a new Civic Centre, on lands in its ownership in Longford Town.

It is envisaged that this development could become a ‘one-stop shop’ for future public services in county Longford.

Taking into account the challenge around the shortage of suitable space in Longford Town centre; the uncertainties surrounding the future of office-based working arrangements post-pandemic and not least, our current and future climate change obligations under the Governments Climate Action Plan 2019, it is now the optimum time to seek such expressions of interest from the market.

While the delivery of this Civic Centre will be a further catalyst for regeneration, it is important to note that it is a separately funded stand-alone project. It complements the recently announced URDF funding of €10.44 million allocated to the Camlin Quarter and it will also complement any future Council-led developments in Longford.

As part of this expression of interest stage, the Council is welcoming proposals for this Civic Centre from suitably qualified developers that also address the requirement for the community, social and economic benefit expected from the Camlin Quarter Masterplan.

It is envisaged that any new Civic Centre that may result from this process will enable public services to be delivered to all citizens of County Longford as effectively and accessibly as possible, from a future-proofed, modern, integrated and central facility.
