Local businesses embrace digital future at Longford technology event with Matt Cooper
Longford County Council and Local Enterprise Office host ‘Technology for Growth’
Press Release: Monday, 03 November 2025
Longford County Council recently hosted a successful business event, as local enterprises gathered to explore how technology and artificial intelligence can drive growth and profitability.
‘The Technology for Growth: Building Smarter Local Businesses’ event, organised by Longford Local Enterprise Office in partnership with Longford County Council, attracted significant attendance from the local business community eager to understand practical applications of digital tools and AI. The event took place in the Longford Arms Hotel.
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Gary Murtagh opened proceedings before broadcaster Matt Cooper took the helm as host for the morning session. Expert presentations from Peter Cosgrove of Futurewise.ie and David Nagle of Microsoft provided attendees with real-world insights into technology adoption and digital transformation.
The programme included a panel discussion featuring LEO digital consultant John O'Shanahan of LEAN BPI and Louise Brennan of Fabiani, who shared her experience as an early adopter of digital technology in her local business. Their practical perspectives demonstrated the tangible benefits available to Longford enterprises willing to embrace change.
The morning concluded with networking opportunities, allowing attendees to engage directly with digital service providers. Local exhibitors including Wottaspace, CTS Longford, Purple Decks, Cablecomm and Create Interactive were joined by AppAdvisor, Big Red Book, LowerFees.ie, RD Tax Solutions and Irish Manufacturing Research, who travelled to participate in the event.
Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Cllr Gary Murtagh said, "Today's event reflects our determination to ensure Longford businesses have every opportunity to thrive. Technology isn't something that happens elsewhere—it's here, it's accessible, and it's already making a real difference to local enterprises. We're proud to support businesses taking these important steps forward."
Michael Nevin, Head of Enterprise, emphasised the urgency of digital adoption, "The businesses succeeding right now aren't necessarily the biggest—they're the ones adapting fastest. Technology gives smaller enterprises the same tools as multinationals. Whether it's streamlining operations, reaching new customers, or cutting overheads, digital adoption has moved from advantage to necessity."
Chief Executive of Longford County Council Paddy Mahon added, "We're seeing a fundamental shift in how business is conducted. The companies that engage with AI and digital tools today are building resilience for tomorrow. Our role is to make sure every Longford business, regardless of size or sector, has access to the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions about their digital future."
The event was funded by the Local Enterprise Office and Longford County Council as part of its ongoing support programme for local businesses pursuing digitalisation.
