Longford community groups to benefit from over €150,000 in LEP 2026 funding

Community and voluntary organisations across Longford are set to benefit from €152,827 awarded to Longford County Council under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026. The scheme, funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and administered locally by the Longford LCDC, supports small capital works and the purchase of essential equipment.

The programme focuses on communities that experience disadvantage, ensuring funding reaches areas where it can make a meaningful difference. 30% of this year’s allocation is ring‑fenced for grants of €1,000 or less, echoing the pattern of recent years where most awards supported small but vital upgrades.

The funding can support improvements such as repairs to community facilities, accessibility upgrades, energy‑efficiency measures, and the purchase of items including tables, chairs, laptops, printers, tools, signage, canopies, lawnmowers and training equipment. Any not‑for‑profit community or voluntary group may apply.

Applications must align with one or more of the priority areas in the Longford Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) 2023–2029, ensuring investment matches local needs and strengthens community participation.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said, “This funding is a real boost for local groups who work hard to support their communities. Often it is the small things—fixing a roof, or buying equipment—that keeps a facility open and welcoming to all. The LEP helps ensure that no group is left behind, especially in areas that face the greatest challenges.”

Deputy Chief Executive of Longford County Council, John Brannigan, said, “The LEP focuses on practical improvements that make daily life easier for communities. We see time and again how even modest investments can strengthen local facilities and support greater inclusion. I encourage all eligible groups to review the guidance and apply.”

Please note:

• Funding is capital only.
• Costs incurred before project approval are not eligible.
• VAT is only payable when included in the submitted quotation.
• One quotation is required for contracts under €5,000; three are required for those over €5,000.
• All online applications must be fully completed and signed by a Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer of your community group on www.longfordcoco.ie
• Closing date for online applications and supporting documentation is 4pm on Friday, 27 February 2026. 
• Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

The scheme aims to enhance community life across Longford by improving local facilities and supporting participation for all, including people with disabilities, and under‑represented or marginalised groups.
