Longford County Council adopts new Corporate Plan 2024-2029

Plans set out Council's priorities for County Longford for the next five years

Press Release: Monday, 25 November 2024

Longford County Council Corporate Plan 2024-2029 was officially adopted by the Elected Members at a meeting of the Council on Wednesday, 13 November. The Corporate Plan sets out the Council's vision for County Longford with strategic objectives and supporting actions for the next five years.

Under the Local Government Acts 2001-2014, each local authority is required to prepare a Corporate Plan within six months of the Council's Annual Meeting in a local election year. This new Corporate Plan follows the election of a new Council at the Local Elections in June 2024.

This new plan is informed by extensive public consultation which took place throughout the summer months across all County Longford Municipal Districts. This consultation process involved a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, local community groups and voluntary organisations, Government agencies working at a local level, local business and farming interests, the elected members and Council employees.

The plan contains strategic objectives framed under the four pillars of 'Our People', 'Our Place', 'Our Opportunity' and 'Our Public Service'. This Corporate Plan is not only a governance document, but also an important guiding framework for all Council work and services over the lifetime of the plan.

Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey said, "On behalf of the Council, I welcome this new Corporate Plan and the vision and direction it sets out for our county. This plan arises from listening and understanding the priorities of our stakeholders and working towards a county that they want to see. I encourage everyone to have a read through this new plan. I look forward to seeing the actions and achievements arising from its implementation."

Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, "This plan aims to address the needs and realise the ambitions of Longford people for their county. It includes a vision to make Longford a 'vibrant, inclusive and sustainable county where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, contribute and achieve their full potential.' On behalf of the Council's management team and employees, I welcome this new Corporate Plan."
