Longford County Council and Library Services celebrate Battle of Wits county final 2025
Longford teams set to compete at regional final

The County Longford final of the Battle of Wits 2025 quiz took place recently in Ballymahon Library, bringing together some of the brightest Transition Year minds from across the county.
Teams from Moyne Community School, Mercy Secondary School Ballymahon, Meán Scoil Mhuire Longford, Cnoc Mhuire Granard, St. Mel’s College Longford, Lanesboro Community College, Ballymahon Vocational School, and Ardscoil Phadráig, Granard competed in a lively and challenging contest.
After an exciting battle, Moyne Community School emerged as winners, represented by Ryan Farrell, Seán Brady, Ruth Cosgrove and Kevin Conefrey. St. Mel’s College claimed second place with Nathanial Flood, Jamie Clarke, Diarmuid Galvin and Jonah Flanagan, while Mercy Secondary School Ballymahon secured third place thanks to Joe Ward, Sean Nash, Liam Mahon and Zach Kelly.
The quiz was expertly hosted by County Archivist Martin Morris, and prizes were presented by Cllr Martin Skelly, Cathaoirleach of Ballymahon Municipal District.
Both Moyne Community School and St. Mel’s College will now represent Longford in the Battle of Wits Regional Final which takes place in Athlone on Thursday, 4 December, competing against schools from Westmeath, Laois and Offaly.
Cathaoirleach of Ballymahon MD Cllr Martin Skelly, said, "It was a privilege to present the prizes at the Battle of the Wits final. Every team demonstrated incredible knowledge and a great sense of team spirit. Congratulations to Moyne Community School and St. Mel’s College – we’ll be cheering you on in Athlone."
