Longford County Council invites artists to Creative Proposals Workshop

One-to-one mentoring opportunities also available

Press Release: Tuesday, 13 October 2026

Longford County Council Arts Service is inviting artists from across County Longford to take part in a practical workshop on developing creative proposals and funding applications, followed by one-to-one mentoring sessions, on Saturday, 14 November 2026.  Securing funding often starts with a strong proposal, yet many artists find it difficult to turn a creative idea into a clear and compelling application. This workshop aims to demystify the process and give participants practical skills they can use straight away.

Open to artists working across all artforms, including visual arts, music, literature and performance, the event is suitable for both emerging and established creatives. Whether preparing for an upcoming deadline or seeking to strengthen future applications, participants will gain practical guidance from an experienced professional. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for artists to connect with others working across the county.  The workshop will be led by Annette Moloney, a curator, commissioner and public art specialist with more than 25 years’ experience in the arts sector.
The morning session will cover:

  • Best practice in writing proposals and funding applications
  • Reviewing successful project proposals
  • Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Understanding selection processes and assessment criteria
  • Preparing CVs, biographies and supporting material
  • Time management and overcoming procrastination

In the afternoon, six one-to-one mentoring sessions of approximately 25 minutes each will be available. Priority will be given to artists who attend the morning workshop.  The workshop will be particularly beneficial for artists planning to apply for forthcoming Longford Arts Office funding opportunities, including the Arts Bursary Awards, Arts Project Awards and Artist Residency Award.  The workshop is limited to 30 participants and early booking is advised.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Gerry Hagan said, "There is no shortage of creativity in County Longford. What artists often need is support in presenting their ideas with confidence and clarity. This workshop will give participants practical advice from an experienced professional and help them strengthen future funding applications and project proposals."

Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Samantha Healy said, "The arts make an important contribution to the cultural life of County Longford. By offering opportunities such as this workshop and mentoring programme, we are supporting artists to develop their practice, access new opportunities and continue contributing to the county's vibrant creative sector."
