Press Release: Monday, 22 September 2025
Longford County Council is proud to announce the launch of 'The Evening Edit', a lively new programme of night-time events which began on 7 September and runs until 23 November 2025 in Longford Town.
Supported through Call 2 of the Night-Time Economy Grant Scheme, this initiative brings together local businesses, artists, community groups, and venues to deliver a diverse and engaging calendar of evening activities designed to energise the town centre after dark.
Events will take place Sunday to Thursday evenings through September, October and November and will include:
- Live music DJ sets
- Art exhibitions and film screenings
- Social dancing, bingo, and live podcasts
Activities will be hosted across a range of venues from cafés and pubs to community spaces, theatres, and outdoor locations with many organisers collaborating to create fun experiences for all ages.
This season's campaign places a strong emphasis on:
- 'Feet on the Street' - encouraging increased evening footfall
- Transport options - improving access and safety
- Family-focused programming - ensuring inclusivity and variety
- Community engagement - supporting local creativity and enterprise
As one of Ireland's nine pilot towns for Night-Time Economy development, Longford is continuing to grow and evolve its evening offering. This programme reflects ongoing efforts to build a town centre that is safe, vibrant, and welcoming. Longford County Council encourages locals and visitors alike to come out, support the initiative, and be part of this collective effort.
Michael Nevin, Head of Enterprise at Longford County Council, said, "The Night-Time Economy project continues to look at imaginative ways that we can keep life in Longford Town in the evenings. The Autumn/Winter campaign will have a strong focus on family events and initiatives, and we hope that it encourages people to visit the town and engage in positive and memorable experiences."
Karen Reilly, Night-Time Economy Advisor, added, "There's a real buzz building in Longford Town this season, and we want people to come out, support local initiatives, and experience the great atmosphere and events happening across the town. The Evening Edit is about creating opportunities for people to reconnect with the town, whether it's through music, movement, creativity, or simply spending time with others in a welcoming space.
"We're inviting everyone, families, friends, neighbours to come into town, explore what's on, and support the fantastic local groups and businesses who are working hard to make Longford a warm and welcoming place after dark. There's something for everyone, and it's a great time to rediscover your town in a whole new light."
