Longford County Council supports local Sepsis Awareness Campaign

Partnership with Irish Sepsis Foundation

Press Release: Thursday, 26 February 2026

Longford County Council was pleased to support and participate in the recent launch of a Sepsis Awareness Campaign led by local advocates Linda Lowry and Bobbi Yasir, in partnership with the Irish Sepsis Foundation.

As part of this important initiative, a series of Sepsis Awareness Information Sessions were hosted for staff across the county. The sessions provided clear, practical information about recognising the signs and symptoms of sepsis, while also sharing powerful personal stories that highlight the real-life impact of this serious condition and the vital importance of early awareness.

Longford County Council is particularly proud to be involved in this campaign in memory of former employee and late colleague, Andy Lowry. Andy’s legacy continues to inspire efforts to raise awareness, educate communities, and help prevent future loss of life through early recognition and action. The campaign also remembered the late Zara Yasir (18 months) daughter of Bobbi Yasir.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said, “Raising awareness of sepsis can save lives. It is vital that people know the warning signs and feel confident to act. We are grateful to Linda and Bobbi for their leadership and courage in driving this campaign, and it is a privilege for the Council to support it.”

Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon said, "We are honoured to support Linda and Bobbi in this important campaign. Sepsis awareness can save lives, and initiatives like this play a crucial role in ensuring people know the warning signs and act quickly. It is especially meaningful for us to be part of this work in memory of our colleague Andy, who is fondly remembered by all who worked with him."

Longford County Council encourages the wider community to learn more about sepsis and to continue supporting awareness efforts across the county. Please see the Irish Sepsis Foundation website for more details about the signs and symptoms of Sepsis: https://www.sepsisfoundation.ie/
