Longford County Council supports national campaign promoting late-night public transport
‘The TFI Network Works Later Than You Think’
Press Release: Friday, 6 November 2026
Longford County Council is supporting a new national campaign that highlights evening, late-night and 24-hour public transport services.
The Transport for Ireland campaign, ‘The TFI Network Works Later Than You Think’, aims to make more people aware of the services available after dark.
Late services can help people travelling to and from work, social events, cultural activities and family gatherings. They are also important for staff working in hospitality, retail and other sectors with evening hours.
In County Longford, TFI Local Link routes 426, 816 and 865 provide late-evening connections to destinations including Granard and Mullingar. Evening rail services also operate from Longford, with links towards Dublin and Sligo.
The campaign is supported locally by Longford County Council’s Night-Time Economy Advisor. It forms part of wider work to support a safe, active and welcoming night-time economy in Longford.
Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry Hagan said, “Reliable evening transport helps people take part in the social and cultural life of our county. It also gives workers, residents and visitors more choice when planning how to get home. I welcome this campaign and encourage people to check what services are available.” Longford
County Council Chief Executive Samantha Healy said, “Public transport has an important role in supporting Longford’s night-time economy. It connects people with jobs, businesses, events and services, while offering a safe and affordable travel option. Through our Night-Time Economy Advisor, the Council is pleased to support this national campaign and help raise awareness of the evening services operating in Longford.”
Passengers can check routes, timetables, real-time information and service updates through the TFI app or the TFI website. For more information, visit www.transportforireland.ie.
