Longford County Council to celebrate Your Council Day 2025
The Theme this year is Building Stronger Communities

Longford County Council will join local authorities across Ireland on Friday, 27 June to mark Your Council Day, a national campaign promoting the vital work of city and county councils and the people behind the services that support our communities every day.
Coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and supported by all 31 local authorities, Your Council Day is an opportunity to showcase the wide range of services councils provide - from community spaces and planning to local democracy and economic development.
This year’s theme, ‘Building Stronger Communities’, highlights how local authorities foster environments where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to thrive.
As part of the day, Longford County Council will be rolling out a series of new video and social media content to promote the positive stories from the county council. Engaging video content celebrating the recent Dream Space event, the North Longford Rebel walkway which connects the communities from Drumlish to the village of Ballinamuck will be some of the events highlighted as part of the content for Your Council Day. Mickey Quinn's groundbreaking 6:30am ‘When No One is Watching’ (WNOW) exercise sessions will also be featured on RTE Radio One on Friday, 27 June to mark Your Council Day. Longford County Council supports this unique exercise initiative at the Athletics Centre, which creates a discreet entry point for men who might otherwise avoid health-focused activities. By creating an accessible, non-threatening environment, Longford County Council is pioneering a community-based approach to wellbeing. RTE will also feature the unique Café Lates on the Six One news in the coming days. Café Lates’ is designed to foster a vibrant and diverse night-time café culture.
Longford Town is one of nine pilot towns nationwide actively enhancing Ireland's night-time economy, and Longford County Council is committed to building on the town's after-6 pm offerings.
The public is encouraged to follow the day’s events on Longford County Council’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X and join the conversation using the hashtags #YourCouncilDay and #DoLáSaChomhairle.

“This year’s theme, Building Stronger Communities, highlights what is integral to local government. We deliver over 1,000 vital services that touch every aspect of daily life. Street cleaning, road maintenance, housing, urban planning, dog wardens, management of parks, fire services, arts and heritage, tourism, and community events — these are just a small snapshot of the wide-ranging work carried out by our local authorities every day. These services are made possible by the dedication and hard work of our local authority teams. ‘Your Council Day’ is a chance to shine a light on their contributions, celebrate their impact, and raise awareness of the essential role local councils play in supporting and strengthening our communities. We are very proud in Longford County Council to support people and places to grow, connect, and thrive together.”
