Longford Library hosts lecture to commemorate centenary of Ireland and the League of Nations

Longford Library will host a lecture on Ireland and the League of Nations by Dr Michael Kennedy at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 19 September.

The event is being organised by Longford County Library, Heritage, Archives and Arts Services as part of the Decade of Centenaries Programme.

The lecture is being held to commemorate the centenary of the Irish Free State joining the League of Nations on 10 September 1923. The league was founded after the Great War to prevent the outbreak of conflicts.

Dr Michael Kennedy is the executive editor with the Documents on Irish Foreign Policy project in the Royal Irish Academy. For nearly thirty years, he has written and published widely on modern Irish history, particularly on military and diplomatic history, and on Irish foreign policy. Previously he lectured in Irish and European history at Queen's University, Belfast and has also lectured in other institutions.
