Longford County Council was delighted to host a civic reception in honour of the All Ireland Intermediate Club Champions 2022 Longford Slashers GAA Ladies Club and Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year 2022 winners, Solomon Eduard and Joshua Osabuehien.
The event took place on Friday, 24 February and was led by Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Turlough McGovern. The civic reception recognised and celebrated the successes of both groups of young local people on the national and international stage.
Longford Slashers Ladies GAA Club took home the title of All Ireland Intermediate Club Champions 2022. The same year they also won Leinster Intermediate Club Champions and became Senior County Champions for the fourth year in a row.
Solomon Eduard and Joshua Osabuehien won the title of World Designer of the Year award at the first Junk Kouture World Final in Abu Dhabi. The pair beat off stiff competition from 60 other finalists from London, Paris, Milan, and New York. Both are students of Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School Granard.
Speaking at the event Cathaoirleach Cllr Turlough McGovern said, “It is great to see this group of young Longford people getting recognised here today. Solomon and Joshua have put Longford on the map for innovation, sustainability and fashion. Longford Slashers Ladies have no doubt inspired more young girls to take up or continue with sport. They should all be incredibly proud of their achievements, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.”
Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, “Longford County Council is proud to celebrate our local young people and their successes on both the football pitch and the fashion runway. With such talented and hardworking young people, County Longford has a bright future.”
