Public invited to explore possibility of Men's Shed and Foróige youth club for Ballymahon

Open morning to focus on ‘Building a Shared Future Together’

Longford County Council is inviting residents to attend an open morning focused on the possibility of establishing a Men's Shed and Foróige youth club in Ballymahon.

‘Building a Shared Future Together for Ballymahon’ takes place at Bridgeways Family Resource Centre on Thursday, 20 November at 11am.

Representatives from Men's Sheds in Edgeworthstown, Granard and Killoe will discuss their experiences and the benefits they have gained from involvement. Ber Fagan from Lus na Gréine will outline the practical steps involved in establishing a Men's Shed, whilst Dawn Gorman from Foróige will share plans for a youth club in the town.

The morning forms part of the UR Impact project, which has worked over the past two years to place citizens at the centre of urban regeneration through collaborative decision-making. The URBACT Local Group brought together stakeholders to identify Ballymahon's needs and challenges, developing an Integrated Action Plan. Two priority actions emerged: establishing a Men's Shed and developing youth infrastructure.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said, "This is an opportunity for our community to shape services that will benefit generations. The Men's Shed movement has transformed lives across Longford, and our young people deserve spaces where they can grow and connect. I encourage everyone to attend and contribute their voice."
