Safe & Sound campaign promoting responsible nightlife is launched in Longford
Longford Night Time Economy campaign to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote respect
Press Release: Wednesday, 19 December 2024
Longford Night Time Economy, in collaboration with Longford Community Safety Partnership, has officially launched its Safe & Sound campaign. It is part of a nationwide effort through all nine pilot Night Time Economy areas to promote responsible nightlife, reduce anti-social behaviour and encourage respect within local communities.
The campaign is a call to action for both visitors and residents to enjoy the night-time economy safely while being considerate of their surroundings. It focuses on highlighting the importance of respect, ensuring that nightlife remains a positive experience for all. Whether heading out for a night of entertainment, dining, or socialising, the campaign's key message is simple: enjoy yourself, but be respectful of others and the areas you visit.
Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Minister Catherine Martin welcomed the launch, highlighting the importance of safety within the Night Time Economy. "Safety is a key pillar in the pilot areas, but we also want to remind people to have fun and enjoy their nights out. This campaign encourages individuals to be mindful of others, creating a more enjoyable and respectful environment for everyone."
The Safe & Sound campaign will also promote several safety initiatives and will provide an umbrella for other initiatives, such as the Safe Gigs programme, aimed at reducing incidents of harm and ensuring that entertainment venues remain welcoming spaces for all.
Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Mark Casey said, "It is great to be here to launch this campaign ahead of the festive season as more and more people are out celebrating. It is an important message to keep one another safe so that we can all freely enjoy ourselves. I encourage everyone to keep an eye out for the campaigns messaging over the coming weeks and months."
Longford County Council Chief Executive Paddy Mahon added, "This campaign is proudly supported by the Council as we look to raise awareness for everyone when out and about in County Longford to enjoy themselves while along looking after one another."
In partnership with Think House, the NTE Advisors have worked to develop a fun, engaging, and memorable campaign that resonates with people across the pilot areas. Through this initiative, the Safe & Sound campaign aims to set a positive tone for the future of the Night Time Economy, combining both enjoyment and responsibility.
NTE Advisor for Longford Karen Reilly said, "This campaign is about fostering a sense of respect and creating an environment where people feel safe and able to enjoy their night out, while also looking out for the wellbeing of others."
As the campaign rolls out across nine pilot areas, it is expected to become a model for other regions to follow, contributing to the growth of a safe and vibrant night-time economy across the country.
