Humanitarian Assistance Scheme

The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme provides income-tested financial assistance to households affected by a severe weather event, including the recent Storm Éowyn.

The scheme is run by the Department of Social Protection. It is administered by the Community Welfare Service. Longford's Community Welfare Service is available by calling 081 860 70 80 or emailing CWSLongford@welfare.ie.

For more information, including how to apply, visit Gov.ie's Humanitarian Assistance Scheme section. Application forms are also available from all County Longford libraries.

Electricity Networks

Most electricity supplies are back in County Longford, however, approximately 750 are still out power across the county. This is mainly single no-supply issues and crews are working through these. It is hoped that all power will be restored by Saturday, 9 February at the latest.

Customers with no power supply, where others in their area have had their power restored and where a fault in their area is not listed on PowerCheck.ie, are urged to have their fuse boards checked to ensure not an internal problem.

NEVER, EVER touch or approach fallen wires as they are live and extremely dangerous. Report fallen wires immediately by calling the ESB Emergency Services on 1800 372 999.

The message from ESB Networks is to log calls on PowerCheck.ie if you are still without power from 31 January.

Water Outages

Free bottled water is available in Carrigy's Day Today News shop in Ballinalee.

Most areas now have their water restored. However, there may be disruptions in areas as repairs to bursts on the network are being completed.
