URBACT Local Group developed for Ballymahon

Group aims to boost community engagement and development

Longford County Council has engaged with the local community to develop an URBACT Local Group (ULG), as part of the URBACT UR Impact project. The group aims to develop an Integrated Action Plan for Ballymahon and Pobal le Cheile.

Meeting regularly in Ballymahon Library, the ULG is made up of representatives from across the community, including the Town Team, Traders Association, Bridgeways Family Resource Centre Ballymahon and Convent Day Care, and residents.

Their meetings involve co-creation workshops, looking at the whole town of Ballymahon, including the challenges and opportunities facing the town. Over the period of the UR Impact project, the ULG will co-create an Action Plan with Longford County Council, identifying actions that will address the problems identified during this phase.

The group are currently working to identify and develop testing actions to engage the wider community. They aim to host events to inform the public about the project and the opportunities it could bring. This event could help us to develop new and innovative ways to engage people who might not feel like projects such as this affect them.

The public were invited to Ballymahon Library earlier this year to give their views on the issues facing Ballymahon. The feedback from those sessions will help inform the actions to be recognised in the coming months.
