We're Breastfeeding Friendly Longford launch set to take place
Takes place during Breastfeeding Week on Monday, 7 October
Press Release: Monday, 30 September 2024
We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Longford is to be launch on Monday, 7 October from 11am to 1pm in Edgeworthstown Library. All are welcome to attend.
The launch will showcase the many supports available to breastfeeding mothers. The initiative aims to help to normalise breastfeeding and support community spaces, businesses, and other organisations to promote themselves as welcoming places for breastfeeding mothers.
We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Longford is supported by Healthy Longford through Healthy Ireland funding. This launch event takes place during National Breastfeeding Week which runs from 1-7 October.
We’re Breastfeeding Friendly Longford is an initiative from the Longford Breastfeeding Project interagency group. The group aims to build awareness of the role of breastfeeding, along with other forms of feeding, to support parents.
It also aims to normalise breastfeeding and work with local businesses and organisations so that they can become better able to help breastfeeding mothers. This work includes creating more comfortable and accessible environments for mothers who need to breastfeed. This includes ongoing work with Longford Shopping Centre and all County Longford libraries.
Research shows that mothers feel comfortable when breastfeeding if they are met with a welcoming, helpful attitude from employees and others, including customers, knowing, and accepting that babies may be breastfed there.
Longford Breastfeeding Project also focuses on education, linking in with communities across Longford to raise awareness of the support available for breastfeeding mothers. The group also promotes antenatal colostrum harvesting for all pregnant women.
