Change of Vehicle Particulars and Vehicle Conversion

Change of Vehicle Particulars

If you have made a change to your vehicle such as engine, colour, body type, tax class, or unladen weight (goods vehicle only), you will need to complete the RF111 Change of Vehicle Particulars Form and send it to your local motor tax office.

Vehicle Conversion

A 'conversion' means that you modify the characteristics of a vehicle so that the details given at registration are changed, for example, its EU vehicle category, number of seats or body type

You must contact the Revenue Commissioners about conversions to a vehicle to find out if VRT implications apply. If there are VRT implications, all documents must be sent to that office.

If there are no VRT implications, submit a completed Declaration of Conversion of a Vehicle Form to Motor Tax Office, Longford County Council, Camlin Court, Great Water Street, Longford. You can also submit this form in person, however, please be aware that assessment of this form will not be done on the day of submission and can take several days.

This form must be completed by a suitably qualified individual (see form for details).

Declarations should be submitted together with supporting documents (see form for details).

You should also submit an RF111 Change of Vehicle Particulars Form (see details above).

If you want to receive an amended Vehicle Registration Certificate, you must send the original certificate with the conversion document to your local motor tax office.

If you intend to tax the vehicle as a light goods or commercial vehicle, also submit the documents mentioned in the Motor Tax for Light Goods Vehicles.

Assessment of Vehicle Conversion

Please be aware that the assessment of a Declaration of Conversion of Vehicle Form can take several days.

A Declaration of Conversion of a Vehicle Form does not mean that Longford County Council (as the licencing authority) will be in a position to process the conversion.

For example, a Declaration of Conversion of a Vehicle Form where no vehicle conversion occurred will not be processed. This includes seeking to change a vehicle from an EU Category M1 to N1 when there has been no alteration to the vehicle. This will not be processed as an EU Category N1 vehicle must have a goods carrying capacity equal to or higher than the person carrying capacity.
