Derrycassin Woods Enhancement Project

Derrycassin Woods is a cherished natural amenity nestled along the shores of Lough Gowna. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the woodland trails had become worn due to heavy use, limiting accessibility for those with reduced mobility. 

The enhancement project focused on:

• Upgrading 6.5km of trail surface using Clause 804 topped with a 50mm fine dust layer
• Installing safety fencing at steep drop locations to improve user safety

Project Goals 

• Improve accessibility for all users, including those with mobility challenges and families with buggies. 
• Enhance safety and comfort along the trail
• Support inclusive recreation and community wellbeing
