Lanesborough Enhancement Project

Safer Access, Stronger Connections

The Lanesborough Enhancement Project, completed in 2023, improves connectivity and pedestrian safety between residential areas along the Ballymahon Road at Tullyvrane and the Lanesborough town centre.

Led by Longford County Council, with support from the Lanesborough Ballyleague Collaboration Group, the project enhances both the functionality and visual appeal of this key entrance to the town.

Project Works

  • Footpath upgrades, including preparation and laying of a 55mm depth close-graded macadam surface
  • Surface dressing at high-use sections to protect against damage from agricultural vehicles
  • Installation of 6 benches to improve accessibility, particularly for older residents
  • Provision of ducting for future public lighting

Project Impact

The project has delivered a safe, continuous walkway linking Tullyvrane with the town centre. While exact usage figures are not available, visual inspection confirms the route is well used and valued by local residents. The addition of benches makes the walk more accessible for those who may need a rest, and the overall improvements contribute positively to the presentation and character of Lanesborough.

Funding

The project received €71,820 in funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, with €7,980 match funding provided by Longford County Council.
