Longford Skate Park
Longford Skate Park
Funded by the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and Longford County Council
Longford Town’s Skate Park was developed in response to strong public and stakeholder support, including from the Longford Town Skatepark Committee, Attic House Teen Project, Longford Local Community Development Committee, Longford PPN, Elected Members and within Longford County Council Regeneration and Community Departments. At the time, there was no skatepark in County Longford or neighbouring counties. The project aimed to create an inclusive recreational space for all. Its development is part of the overall effort to transform the former Longford Greyhound Track into a vibrant community amenity.
Successfully delivered on budget, skaters started to use this new community space in November 2023. It was officially opened on Friday, 16 February 2024 by Minister for Community and Rural Development, Heather Humphreys. This 750-square-metre skatepark is housed in an enclosure area, making it safe for even the youngest of skaters. The park also has easy access to the Royal Canal Greenway via a bicycle and pedestrian pathway.
The total project cost was just under €450,000. The Skate Park received funding of €405,000 under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme from the Department of Rural and Community Development. Longford County Council provided match funding of €45,000. The Skate Park was developed by contractors Browne Brothers Sire Services with support from Volcano Skateparks, in partnership with Longford County Council.
