Moyne Latin School Heritage Centre
Opened on Friday, 3 May 2024, the Moyne Latin School Heritage Centre is a remarkable transformation of a once-derelict building into a vibrant interpretative space that celebrates Moyne's rich educational legacy.
This project tells the story of Moyne's pivotal role in the development of education across the Midlands, dating back to Penal times, when hedge schools provided vital learning opportunities in rural Ireland. The site of one such hedge school has been thoughtfully developed, featuring a recreated classroom environment enhanced with audio-visual technology that immerses visitors in the history of grassroots education.
The centre not only preserves and shares this heritage with visitors - it also creates local employment opportunities, strengthening the community's connection to its past and future.
