Civil Defence is a volunteer-based organisation that supports frontline emergency services and the local community throughout County Longford.

Within our county, we provide medical cover and event stewarding at local events, including the Longford Marathon, Longford Live and Local, Longford Vintage Show, Longford Town Football Club matches and many other community initiatives. We also support the frontline emergency services in dealing with severe weather, flooding, major accidents, firefighting and searching and rescue.

Civil Defence are also involved in the provision of food and accommodation for people displaced from their homes due to a disaster event. The team is also trained to monitor and report radiation levels and assist with control measures, in the event of a radiological emergency.

All our volunteers are trained through national Civil Defence courses. This includes emergency first responder training and cardiac first responder training.
