Longford Fire Service

Longford County Council Fire Service serves the county by maintaining a fire brigade and responding quickly and efficiently to fires and protecting and rescuing people and property from injury by fire.

We have up to 60 firefighters working for us across five fire stations in County Longford: Ballymahon, Edgeworthstown, Granard, Lanesborough and Longford Town.

The vast majority of firefighters work part-time and are on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. They are highly-trained and committed to keeping you safe.

Firefighters are expected to report to the fire station within seven minutes and go mobile to the incident as is the norm for rural counties in Ireland. The station officers report to a senior assistant chief fire officer who is a professional technically qualified officer. In addition, at least one senior fire officer is rostered on-call each week to assist in the handling of emergency incidents. If you think you have what it takes you can take a look at our Join the Fire Service section.

We have responsibility for look after public safety, including educating on fire safety and prevention. We process fire safety certificates and certain licenses including, places of public assembly licenses and dangerous substances licences. We produce a Fire and Emergency Operations Plan and are involved in Major Emergency Management.
